A New Look For A New Year

Right before 2009 came around, I had the idea of redesigning my blog to celebrate a new year of blogging. Unfortunately, I was swamped the last few weeks with freelance work and didn’t get around to it.

But over the last 25 hours I have managed to put together a brand new look for Life of Justin. I’m pretty much ready to go to sleep at this point for the next 15 hours or so…

Why The Change?

Ever since changing to my last theme, I have been chopping my theme up to the point where I hardly even knew what was going on. I had a ton of templates for each category and different sidebars. Instead of cleaning it up, I just wanted to dump the thing and start fresh.

I also disliked a few things with my last theme that I have managed to fix with this theme. One of the things was having excerpts show up on the category pages as well as the search results. It’s now working with this theme. It sure makes it easier for people to find posts they are looking for. I also wanted the font to be easier to read. Does this seem easier to look at?

I also wanted to better incorporate the social network buttons so people can add me on various networks. Now I have managed to tuck them away in the header which opened up some room on the sidebar.

And last but not least, I wanted to add some new typs of ads on the sidebar. So I currently have 4 125 pixel ads instead of one large ad. And if you are wondering…I do have some ad space available so please feel free to contact me if you are interested. I’ll give you a hell of a deal!

The Idea Behind It

When redoing the theme, I wanted to fit my introduction and social network buttons in the header. That way I could free up some real estate on the sidebar. I also wanted to figure out a way to feature some larger pictures in the header. The old polaroid look really limited me to using certain pictures that would fit. So keep an eye out for some new header pictures.

Overall, I am extremely happy with the way it turned out. It just shows how much you can learn about WordPress when you spend a TON of time using it. I have learned more over the last 3 months than I would have ever imagined. And I hope to share that knowledge with all of you!

Looking Ahead

Besides the new look, I also wanted to point out that I will be launching a podcast on Life of Justin. The first one will go up on Monday so stick around. What I plan on doing is having a weekly podcast where I will talk about various topics, including blogging and making money online.

What do you think of the new look? I would greatly appreciate some feedback!

Hey Jim, it’s actually running off of a Revolution theme I purchased which is similiar to the one I was using on the last design. I just tore it apart and rebuilt it.

Thanks for checking it out. Photoblogs are great for putting your pictures somewhere. It almost serves as a portfolio. It was actually pretty easy to setup and didn’t take that much work. It’s running off of WordPress.

I really like the new theme, I guess I won’t yell at you for staying up all night and leaving me to sleep by myself. =)~

Hahaha, I wasn’t expecting to stay up until 5 am tinkering with it. If Internet Explorer cooperated, I would of been done way sooner.

I really like it – I think you’ve made good use of the space with the new header – it’s not something you see on every other blog out there which is always a plus. I’m also a huge fan of the gray background/whote boxes like you have for the post areas and sidebar.

Nice new theme. I much prefer it over the old theme which was rumoured to be killing cute little helpless babies.

    The black is nice.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I must return to my garage where I am NOT torturing one of my neighbours in exchange for ransom money.
